Gompels' staff support Macmillan’s Big Coffee Morning
Gompels’ staff embraced another fundraising event for Macmillan Cancer Support in September, with their Big Coffee Morning.
A variety of cupcakes, slices, muffins and other sweet treats, baked or bought by staff members, were enjoyed by the entire company during a coffee morning get together. It was a good opportunity for the different teams to catch up, and also to introduce new staff members who’d recently joined the company. The team raised just over £166, an amount that the Macmillan website’s ‘What can your money do’ calculator states would pay for their welfare rights advisors to help three people claim the benefits they are entitled to, reducing some of the worry and stress that being diagnosed with cancer may cause them. As Gompels always double any amount raised by staff, the overall funds raised will do so much more!
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s largest fundraising event, supporting those with or affected by cancer. Last year over £29 million was raised purely through coffee mornings. First held in 1990, the original idea was a simple get together over coffee, with the cost of the cuppa being donated to Macmillan. Since then a total of £165.5 million has been raised, proving that every little idea has the potential to become a big success!
As reports show that one in three of us will face cancer, these fun events are ever more important to hold, and are also great fun. It’s Macmillan’s goal that no one faces cancer alone. The charity provides medical, emotional, practical and financial support, as well as continually striving for better cancer care. Macmillan nurses support patients throughout their treatment, answering questions and calming fears, as well as helping family members of those diagnosed, to cope with the pressure.
