Gompels donation helps youth charity Snow-Camp ‘turn lives around’
2018 is the 4th year in which Gompels has supported the national youth charity Snow-Camp. The donations have helped the charity to turn young lives around throughout the UK.
Snow-Camp’s mission is to engage inner-city young people through snowsports to provide life skills training, nationally recognised qualifications and work experience to increase their motivations and aspirations, enabling them to gain employment in the snowsports industry and beyond. Founded in 2003, Snow-Camp has worked with over 9,000 young people nationally to date.
Previous Gompels’ donations have assisted the charity to move into a much-needed larger office. Gompels have also funded the creation of an app, ‘Ski 2 The Moon’, which encourages users to join a collective challenge to ski the distance from earth to the moon to raise money for Snow-Camp.
Charity founder, Dan Charlish says: “It’s such a massive help to once again have this fantastic support from Gompels, and we want to thank everyone at the company. This grant will enable us to work with so many more young people who need our support, which is of course the focus of the charity. But we also really appreciate the broader partnership we enjoy with Gompels: They are always there to discuss ideas, share challenges and help look for solutions. As we seek to establish Snow-Camp as a national youth charity, it is a partnership we greatly appreciate.”
This year Gompels has decided to donate £25,000, to support further expansion and general growth of the charity, so that they can reach out to more young people through their new campaign #Switch180.
What's the campaign about?
Giving young people positive opportunities can turn their lives around. Snow-Camp’s #Switch180 campaign aims to highlight the critical importance of supporting our young people at this key time in their lives, and shows that we must do more as a society to provide the right opportunities for young people today, whether that’s through Snow-Camp’s programmes or otherwise.
Why focus on this issue?
Snow-Camp conducted their own research in partnership with YouGov in December 2017, which showed that:
71% of young people feel they need more support from society to help them to achieve their potential.
76% of young people believe that the lack of positive opportunities puts young people at an increased risk of falling into crime and antisocial behaviour.
The research proves that we must do more to provide positive activities and opportunities for young people – this can make all the difference to the direction their lives take. Positive opportunities such as Snow-Camp can motivate and inspire young people to achieve their potential, reducing the risk of falling into crime and antisocial behaviour and inspiring them towards rewarding and successful futures. The statistics make it all too clear why their work is needed.
