In order to promote best practice, it is important that individual nursing homes have the opportunity to compare their systems and procedures to a set of recognised standards or benchmarks. In the NHS, it is advocated that comparison groups are established so that health care managers can be actively involved in comparing their own performance and the performance of their colleagues against best practice statements.
